The second semi final is done as well and we have the second (gold-) finalist. We still reported about the first pairing, in the following we will recall the races between spittillo and crosswave. As u still realized, we abandon on a detail review for every race as we will publish small videos about chosen races.
The races between spittillo and crosswave were really close, fair and thrilling till the last race. Over all the Jury had to solve two protests in this pairing.
Race 1 (Napoli F6): Spittillo with starboard tack and Crosswave from the pin end with port tack started with a dial up. Both stayed long and after a while spittillo tacks and both boats still sailing backwards. Contact occurs and both skippers protested. In the following Spittillo defend the right side and focused Crosswave all the time. The Result was that Crosswave had less speed at the startline while Spittillo started on his right with nearly the same timing, but more speed. At the first cross Spittillo is with nearly 4bl in front and could cover Crosswave. So at mark 1 Spittillo was in lead with 12 sec. Spittillo not miss out on anything on the downwind run and also not on the second upwind leg (Leegate: 20sec lead for Spittillo, 2nd windward mark: Spittillo leads by 24sec). After 17min race time, Crosswave gave up with writing “well done”. Both skippers didn’t find a solution about the incident in the prestart, so this case went to the Jury (see decision).
Race 2 (Napoli F5): Crosswave with starboard entry, Spittillo with pin end entry again started with a dial up. With a tricky move Spittillo could sail out of it and could win the right side. After the boats snuffling each other Spittillo sailed with 1,6sek advance over the starting line, but on the left side. Due the shifty condition Spittillo took over the lead with 12sec at mark 1. With a nice downwind run Crosswave could came back and going into lead at the second upwind leg. With 11sec ahead Crosswave reached the upwind mark but had to cover his opponent and at this maneuvre he gets a pen. On the follwind upwind Crosswave had to decide wheather he try to focus on his opponent or try to establish a big advanced to do his turn. Crosswave choice was the latter while Spittillo still sitting in a lull. Crosswave did his turn at the finish line and finished first.
Race 3 (Valencia F4): Crosswave (started at the pin end) just went up, but Spittillo payed attention and answered this manoeuvre. At the start Max had a save leeward position with a 0,75 sek advanced. While Crosswave was in bad air, he had to tack away and the tacking duell started. Max could hold a stable lead, the following values proof that: Mark 1: 18 sec lead Mark2: 27 sec lead Mark3: 22,5 sec lead Right before the finish line Crosswave gave up with writing „well done“ and Spittillo won this race without doubts.
Race 4 (Napoli F4):
Race 5 (Valencia F5):
Race 6 (Valencia F6):
Race 7 (Valencia F5): After 6 races the standing was 3:3 and the 7th race decide on going into the gold final or not. Everyone involved keep on the edge of seat. After a close prestart, which were controlled by Crosswave, Spittillo had a better timing (+5sek) and could cover his opponent from the beginning on. After 18min this race was over and spitillo is the 2nd gold finalists.
Very well done to the competitors from the final round. We thank you for the great races, in every race we had a big crewd of spectators, which saw some good sailing.
