The WMRC has found its first finalist. Euphoria has beaten miniden 4-2 and has earned the ticket for the gold final. He finally got revenge of the semi-final of 2008, where Miniden beat him with the same result (4-2).
The two semi-finalists gave a great show - especially in the sixth race: Miniden ahead with 1.5 boat length advantage in the second upwind leg, but with a pen pending. Seeing that the advantage was not enough to make the penalty, the danish sailor tried to embarrass euphoria, in order to give him a penalty or trying to do his penalty keeping the lead.
During the last downwind leg, miniden found the good feeling and with the genua hoisted, started to luff from leeward forcing euphoria to do the same. Miniden with more speed and careful to not break rule 16.1 solved his penalty, hoisted spinnaker and went on the left side of the course on stb tack. euphoria with less speed, (having hoisted the genoa and then spinnaker, bore away and gybed to the same tack, and had leeward advantage.
With miniden a bit ahead, but windward, the boats came up to the left layline. euphoria with a double gybe acquired right of luff, and from this moment there was nothing to do for Miniden. Great race for both and congrats to euphoria for his fantastic result. Now he is waiting the result of the other semifinal to find out who will be his opponent: his compatriot Crosswave or the italian spittillo.
